Its leaves have sweetish aroma , pungent taste and cool after – taste Its oil has strong odour of menthol. Thus, peppermint is due to its essential oil. Essential oil. M. piperita oil obtained from aerial biomass is extensively used in pharmaceuticals, confectionery, flavor and fragrance industries.
